Gusto XR Labs, in collaboration with eXOn Hong Kong Ltd, created various Halloween-themed AR experiences for the Hong Kong Development Bureau (client). The project utilized various technologies, including Augmented Reality, Machine Learning, and GPS tracking.
The client had set up various physical installations and sculptures along Victoria Harbour and wanted to couple it with AR experiences. The idea was for an ‘AR treasure hunt’ – upon scanning different installation, various experiences including AR face filters and WhatsApp stickers would be unlocked.
To deliver an interactive and seamless WebAR ‘Treasure Hunt’ experience for passers-by to access from their smartphones.
To create fun and lively face filters for users to enjoy after they scan the required installation.
Because the sculptures were 3D, it was important that the AR experiences could be triggered even from viewing the sculpture at different angles. We accomplished this by training an AI through machine learning to recognize the sculpture from different angles.
The feedback on the overall experience was excellent. Passersby enjoyed the playfulness of the AR Treasure Hunt. Through WebAR, users did not have to download apps to participate.
